In light of our new special issue dedicated to the Seestar S50 Pro, I thought I would share some more great examples taken with it.

Here is rarely photographed - and difficult object, HIP 116616

This is really cool, and honestly one of the things I love seeing with the Seestar S50 Pro is people pushing it beyond the normal targets we all tend to shoot.

What made you decide to photograph HIP 116616 in the first place? Was there something specific about this target that caught your attention, and what makes it especially difficult to photograph?

Six hours is a pretty serious amount of time on a target for a smart telescope. Did you notice anything different about the S50 Pro when you pushed it that long compared with a shorter session?

I really like seeing images like this because they show what the S50 Pro can do when you get past the brighter, more common targets and really put it to work. Definitely would love to hear more about how you captured this one and anything you learned along the way.

That's pretty impressive for such a compact smart-scope. The stars are definitely better in the first picture, but it looks like pretty solid tracking overall. What are you planning on shooting with it next?

Definitely shooting the eclipse tonight! Yes, the S50 Pro is impressive, the S30 Pro has it's place with power + portability, but in terms of reach, resolution, and clarity the S50 Pro moves away pretty quick from the S30 Pro.

I picked the HIP 116616  target because it’s a very different test than shooting something like a bright nebula or galaxy. You’re trying to capture very faint material that is only visible because it’s being illuminated by nearby starlight, so there isn’t a huge bright object doing the heavy lifting for you. That makes it a surprisingly good test of the entire optical train, including contrast, light gathering ability, star quality, resolution, and the sensitivity of the sensor. I wanted to see whether the S50 Pro could actually pull that subtle structure out of the background and demonstrate what 50mm of good optics paired with a sensor in the IMX585 class can really do. To me, these obscure little wisps and blips in the sky can sometimes tell you more about a telescope than the big showcase objects everyone photographs.
