Proxisky unveils the all-new UMi 20S and UMi 17S mounts

The UMi 20S and UMi 17S launched from Proxisky are the latest strain wave gear equatorial mounts, featuring advanced electromagnetic braking systems, dual-axis anti-collision technology, and self-locking wedge designs. With payload capacities up to 30 kg, these mounts are built for precision and reliability.
Proxisky has introduced two new mounts, the UMi 20S and UMi 17S, expanding their range of strain wave gear equatorial mounts.
The UMi 20S is designed for heavy-duty use, featuring a dual servo motor system for both RA and Dec axes, with a type-20 strain wave gear offering a 120:1 reduction ratio. This robust design allows the UMi 20S to handle payload capacities between 22 to 30 kg, making it suitable for a wide range of equipment setups. The mount’s mechanical home position enhances its reliability, particularly in remote setups where accurate and repeatable positioning is critical.
One of the standout features of the UMi 20S is its advanced self-locking wedge design, which incorporates a dual azimuth locking system. This system ensures zero backlash, crucial for precise tracking and imaging. Additionally, the mount is equipped with electromagnetic braking in the RA axis, providing 68 N·m of braking force. This high braking force, combined with the anti-collision system (ACS), makes the UMi 20S a solid choice for users who require a mount that can handle demanding environments and complex setups.
The all-new UMi 20S and UMi 17S mounts
The UMi 17S, while slightly more compact, does not compromise on performance. It also features a dual servo motor system, but with a type-17 strain wave gear for the RA axis and a type-14 for the Dec axis, both offering a 100:1 reduction ratio. This configuration allows the UMi 17S to support payload capacities between 14 to 21 kg. The UMi 17S shares many of the advanced features found in the UMi 20S, such as the self-locking wedge design with titanium alloy screws and an electromagnetic braking system providing 48 N·m of force. The anti-collision system, present in both models, adds an extra layer of safety during operation by detecting potential collisions and automatically slewing the mount in the opposite direction to avoid damage.
Both the UMi 20S and UMi 17S are designed with remote use in mind, supporting a wide range of communication options, including USB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and ST4. They also come with hard cases lined with EVA foam for protection during transport.
When comparing the UMi 20S and UMi 17S to other mounts in the Proxisky lineup, such as the Ragdoll 20 and UMi 17R, the UMi 20S stands out for its higher payload capacity and enhanced braking system. The UMi 17S, while similar in payload capacity to the UMi 17R, offers a more advanced braking system and a slightly lighter design, making it more portable. Both models also feature the newly introduced anti-collision system, which is not available on other mounts in the lineup.
