Guide scope dew heater from Modulus Optics

Friday, July 25, 2025 by

Dew on equipment during astrophotography sessions is a common issue, especially on guide scopes. Without something to keep condensation away, water can blur images, mess with tracking, and possibly harm the optics. Larger telescopes often have dedicated dew heaters, but small guide scopes are usually stuck with big, awkward heater straps that don’t fit well or wor...

Argon III filter for the miniCAM8

Wednesday, July 23, 2025 by

Unlike more common narrowband filters, Argon III filters penetrate deeper into the less-explored parts of the emission spectrum, making faint ionization fronts and structural asymmetries more apparent. In a recent review of the QHY miniCAM8, Nico from Nebula photos focused in on a rarely talked about narrowband filter, the Argon III (ArIII) filter. It's an addition ...

Telescopes: What countries produce them

Saturday, April 12, 2025 by

When we talk about telescopes, it's easy to think of them as a single, unified product from one brand or company. But the truth is far more fascinating. These incredible instruments are a fusion of precision optics, mechanical design, and cutting-edge electronics, and behind the scenes, their creation is a truly global effort. From the optical glass inside the teles...

Skylabs-polar-alignment-adapter

Skylabs polar alignment adapter

Thursday, February 20, 2025 by

Traditionally, polar alignment is performed at night by aligning the telescope mount with Polaris in the Northern Hemisphere or σ Octantis in the Southern Hemisphere. However, daytime polar alignment can be challenging due to the absence of visible stars. In a recent video titled "POLAR ALIGN DURING THE DAY | Deep Sky Astrophotography," Ben from bbroastr...

ToupTek Astrostation review

Sunday, February 16, 2025 by

The ToupTek Astrostation (now named the StellaVita) offers broader camera compatibility, aiming to be an alternative to the ASIAIR. While promising, the current version struggles with performance, UI design, and guiding reliability. The polar alignment process could be more intuitive, and key features, like all-sky polar alignment, are still missing. Image processing an...

Best solar cameras for F7 telescopes

Monday, February 10, 2025 by

Solar imaging cameras need to meet specific requirements to work well with different telescopes. Unlike deep-sky imaging, where long exposures are the norm, solar imaging requires high-speed cameras capable of capturing many frames per second. This is because the atmosphere is constantly shifting, and capturing a large number of frames allows for stacking the best image...

Astronomy Picture of the Day

2026-04-04
Hello World
Hello World - 2026-04-04 - NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day
From pole to pole our fair planet is captured in this snapshot from space, an evocative image from a window of the Orion spacecraft Integrity. From the spacecraft's perspective the Sun is moving behind Earth's bright limb along the lower right. Africa and the Iberian peninsula are in view on the pale blue planet's surface, while aurorae crown Earth's south and north poles at top right and bottom left. Commander Reid Wiseman took the historic picture on Artemis II mission flight day 2 (April 2), after the completion of the planned translunar injection burn. That burn boosted the spacecraft out of Earth orbit, sending Integrity and crew on a trajectory that will take them around the Moon and back again. That's a journey humans last made over 50 years ago.
