Wave 100i and Wave 150i harmonic drive mounts from Sky-Watcher arrive

Posted on Friday, May 3, 2024 by RICHARD HARRIS, Executive Editor

The Sky-Watcher Wave Strainwave Mount series introduces two innovative models, the Wave 100i and Wave 150i, featuring advanced harmonic strainwave gear technology for zero backlash and precise GoTo functionality. Both models offer dual AZ/EQ tracking modes, rapid 10 degrees per second slewing, and integrated Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connectivity.

Wave 100i and Wave 150i harmonic drive mounts from Sky-Watcher arrive: Challenging top competitors like ZWO and Rainbow Astro.

The Wave 100i weighs 9.5 lbs and supports a 22 lb payload, which can extend to 33 lbs with the optional counterweight kit. The Wave 150i starts at 13 lbs and carries a 33 lb payload, expandable to 55 lbs with the counterweight kit. Each mount includes built-in cable management with ports for ST4 guiding, USB 3.0, and DC power.

Additional features include compatibility with both Vixen and Losmandy dovetails and the option to use a Sky-Watcher SynScan hand controller. Sky-Watcher has also launched a compatible carbon fiber tripod that weighs only 5.3 lbs.

Wave 100i Strainwave Mount features

The Wave 100i is an exceptionally lightweight mount, tipping the scales at just 9.5 pounds, yet it supports a payload of 22 pounds per saddle, which can be increased to 33 pounds in EQ mode with the optional counterweight kit. This makes it an ideal portable mount that doubles as a dual saddle tool for astronomy outreach or an equatorial imaging setup. It also boasts a near-silent slew speed of 10 degrees per second, enabling it to track satellites and space stations efficiently with the latest strainwave technology.
