How to buy the Tele Vue 24 Delos

Wednesday, October 22, 2025 by

There is a moment, under a steady sky (rare I know), when your eye and the eyepiece feel like one instrument, and the telescope simply fades away. The Tele Vue 24mm Delos is designed for exactly that moment. It pairs a comfortably long 20 millimeters of eye relief with a wide apparent field of 72 degrees, that lets you take in expansive views without craning your neck o...

NOBLEX ultra-wide-angle anastigmatic eyepiece is here

Tuesday, September 2, 2025 by

When we talk about astronomy equipment, the conversation usually circles around telescopes, mounts, and cameras. Eyepieces are sometimes treated as accessories, when in truth they are the final translators between the light gathered by the telescope and the eye of the observer. The NOBLEX ultra-wide-angle anastigmatic eyepiece belongs to that class of optical tools that...

Astrophotography-is-expensive

Astrophotography is expensive

Thursday, June 12, 2025 by

I first pointed a telescope at the night sky in 1986, a wide-eyed kid with a Tasco 60mm refractor and my parents’ 35mm film camera. I had no idea what I was doing. The telescope was a humble department-store model on a wobbly tripod, and the camera was loaded with ISO 400 film that I’d push to its limits. Yet, under a crisp night sky, with Halley’...

Astronomical sketching and keeping things dark

Thursday, September 19, 2024 by

Astronomical sketching is a unique blend of art and science. It requires patience, precision, and a deep appreciation for the night sky. Unlike photography, which captures a moment in time, sketching allows you to engage with whatever object you are observing on a more intimate level. You observe, you interpret, and you translate what you see into a piece of art. ...

What’s a Solar...

IC 4592: The Blue Horsehead Reflection Nebula - 2026-04-07 - Image by Rabeea Alkuwari (NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day)

Do you see the horse's head? What you are seeing is not the famous Horsehead nebula toward Orion, but rather a fainter nebula that only takes on a familiar form with deeper imaging. The main part of the here-imaged molecular cloud complex is reflection nebula IC 4592. Reflection nebulas are made up of very fine dust that normally appears dark but can look quite blue when reflecting the visible light of energetic nearby stars. In this case, the source of much of the reflected light is a star at the eye of the horse. That star is part of Nu Scorpii, one of the brighter star systems toward the constellation of the Scorpion (Scorpius). A second reflection nebula dubbed IC 4601 is visible surrounding two stars just below the image center. The featured picture was taken from Sawda Natheel in Qatar.
