Our goal is the design and realization of optical instruments with highest possible performance for visual observations and photographic applications. Based on this maxima we always give the quality and performance a higher priority in respect to the costs.
For this reason we work with selected partners (Qioptiqs former Rodenstock Precision Optics and Creative Instruments) who guarantee us the expected high level of quality.
- Based on this philosophy we offer telescopes with optics of the best manufacturers. These optics we mount with optical mechanical designs working at the technology limit to reduce as much as possible gravitational and thermal influences.
- Further on we offer Correctors to compensate the dispersive influences of the atmosphere and the glass path of optical equipment as binocular viewers and prisms. The correctors are always designed for specific telescope system with given F number.
- The are also corrector for enhanced diffraction limited field of view for Cassegrain system and specific telecenter systems for H-alpha filters in our product portfolio.
The goal of Gutekunst Optiksysteme is to deliver optimized Optical systems and components to high sophistic observers to guarantee observations with maximal performance and aesthetics.
The basics are the understanding of the complete system object – atmosphere – telescope housing – telescope – eyepiece – observer. Based on this the optical system components or correctors will be designed and optimized.
To achieve a maximal performance only components with highest quality are chosen which drives the costs. In the same time we try to present the quality of our designs in a transparent way. Simulations of complete telescope and corrector systems should demonstrate the high optical performance but also underline the idea that these designs work only for specific telescope types.
At 16 Dr. Gutekunst became member of “Volksternwarte Stutgart”. At this public observatory he held observatory tours and trained also young people in astronomy. In Tubingen he studied physics and astronomy and made 1986 his Ph.D. in astronomy.
During his work as astronomer he gained experience on several observation campaigns at the ESO in Chile (La Silla) and Max Planck Institute in Spain (Calar Alto).
His career as instrument designer he started already with 16 by building his first 6” Newton Telescope. Later he realized in his time at the university scanning photometers and 2D photo counting imaging devices. At his work in the industry he was responsible for a department instrumentation designing analysis machines for blood and gene analysis.
As project leader he realized several products which have been produced in higher numbers (some thousands) with considerable turnover (500 million). Since 1998 he has his own engineering office where Argus-Optics is a spin off.
By his interdisciplinary work with Biologist and Chemists he got a deeper understanding about development of complex systems. Especially he learned that an important fact for the success is to balance the requirements for the different components. In case of the astronomy the system consists of the atmosphere, telescope housing, telescope, mount, eyepieces, detectors, spectrometer, control SW and analysis SW. Here the experience helps to set up for the specific observation applications optimized observation systems to guarantee the observer the highest performance.
