Achieving high-quality astro images requires precise alignment of all components in the imaging stack. The Critical Focus Zone value is based on the assumption that the imaging sensor is perpendicular to the optical axis. When the imaging sensor is tilted relative to the optical axis, the focus range is reduced, which can result in poor focus across the entire image area. In the worst cases, it may become impossible to achieve uniform focus.
Tilt issues often arise from a misaligned sensor or inaccuracies in the tilt adapter or distance rings. To address this, Astro Precision developed the TiltPrecision instrument, which accurately measures tilt and aids in adjusting the tilt adapter to compensate for any misalignment.
