Luminos Pro app adds support for stellarium landscapes

Posted on Thursday, July 4, 2024 by RICHARD HARRIS, Executive Editor

If you are not familiar with the Luminos Pro app, it is an astronomy app that offers a wide range of features for both star gazing and 3D galaxy exploration. The app includes built-in databases and provides personalized recommendations based on the user's location.

Luminos Pro app 11.1 update introduces Stellarium landscape support

The Luminos Pro 11.1 update has been released, introducing several key features and enhancements to enrich the experience for both amateur and professional astronomers. The most significant addition is support for Stellarium landscapes. These landscapes are 360-degree photographic panoramas that replace the 3D terrain with a view from the panorama while maintaining a transparent sky for Luminos Pro to render. This feature, which is free for all users, includes over twenty high-quality landscapes within the app, with the option to easily add more downloaded landscapes or import an entire folder of landscapes. All three photographic landscape formats are supported: spherical, "old-style," and fisheye, supporting the polygonal format planned for a future update.

Landscapes can have associated locations, allowing users to fly to those locations and view the current sky. If a user finds a landscape they like, they can set it as their "home" landscape. In-app editing is available for landscapes, with adjustments for alignment and properties such as title, description, and location. Changes are saved back to the landscape and remain compatible with Stellarium.

Additionally, the update includes various bug fixes, improved translations, and several tweaks throughout the app to enhance overall performance and usability. Luminos Pro continues to evolve, offering even more tools and features to help users explore and appreciate the wonders of the universe.
