APM Telescopes has introduced a new addition to its range of high-quality refractors with the APM - Telescope APO FPL 53 Refractor 106mm F/6.6, featuring a 2.5" ZTA focuser. This model is designed to replace the well-regarded LZOS 105 F/6.2 Apo, offering an upgraded optical system and enhanced performance for both visual and photographic applications.
About the APM 106mm F6.6 APO refractor with FPL-53 glass that was just announced.
The telescope features a 106mm aperture with a focal length of 700mm, resulting in a focal ratio of f/6.6. The optical system employs the APM SuperED FPL 53 APO triplet lens, known for its exceptional clarity and color correction. These optics are made in Japan and are renowned for their high quality, delivering sharp and high-contrast images suitable for a wide range of astronomical observations.
One of the standout features of this telescope is its modern broadband multi-coating, which enhances light transmission and reduces reflections, ensuring clear and bright images. The tube is optimized for binocular use, adding to its versatility. Additionally, the 2.5" ZTA focuser provides smooth and precise focusing with a 1:10 micro-reduction and is capable of 360-degree rotation, making it easy to achieve the perfect focus for both visual observation and astrophotography.

The telescope is versatile in its applications, suitable for both planetary and deep-sky observations. With the addition of the 0.75x Riccardi reducer, the focal length can be reduced to approximately 525mm (F/4.95), making it more suitable for CCD imaging. For those interested in detailed planetary observation, high-quality Barlow systems can be used. The telescope also performs exceptionally well in solar observation when equipped with the appropriate accessories, maintaining excellent definition and contrast.
For visual observations, an 80mm extension tube is required when using a 2" star diagonal mirror, which is included in the scope of delivery. The standard package also includes tube clamps with a Vixen-level mounting rail and a 2" to 1.25" connection adapter, ensuring that the system is ready for use right out of the box. Internal threads of M63 and M68 are available for additional accessories.
Weighing only 5.3 kg, the telescope is highly portable, making it suitable for astro safaris and remote observation sessions. The lightweight design does not compromise the stability and performance, ensuring reliable use in various observing conditions.
The complete scope of delivery includes the optical tube with a sliding dew cap, APM CNC tube rings, the 2.5" ZTA focuser with 1:10 reduction, a Fast Lock reduction adapter for 2" and 1¼" eyepieces, a Vixen-like mounting rail, an 80mm extension tube, covers for both ends, and a transport case for safe and convenient transportation.
The shipping dimensions are 71 cm x 29 cm x 30 cm, with a shipping weight of 12.90 kg and a volume weight of 13.00 kg. The product specifications highlight the high-quality construction and materials used, including the aluminum tube, multicoated optics, and a dewcap diameter of 156 mm. The telescope's focal length is 700 mm with a focal ratio of f/6.6, making it a versatile instrument for various types of astronomical observations. The tube's weight is 11.7 lbs, with a diameter of 116mm, and the total weight with the case is 10.9 kg. The length during observing is 630mm, and the back focus is 225mm, providing ample space for various accessories.
