Solar Image in H alpha
Imaged with a Lunt 100T/Ha/Coronado90 "Luntnado" with a B3400 blocking filter
Imaged on September 26, 2012, with a DMK41 camera
Long strands of filaments dance across this inverted image of the sun, along with prominences flashing along the solar disk's edge. The dark areas represent active regions many times larger than the Earth. The sun sits within a panorama of a star-studded background, reminding us that even the sun is not alone. This image was selected as NASA's APOD for October 15, 2012.
